Hamilton Beach 2-Quart Save Money

Best offer for Hamilton Beach 40911 2-Quart Electric Iced Tea Maker is now available. This best product is now on the market, you can buy it this moment for just $29.99 and usually ships in a day.

Item Info

Coffee drinkers have their automatic brewers, why shouldn’t tea drinkers? Ideal for family gatherings or summer picnics, this ingenious Hamilton Beach machine brews up a pitcher full of iced tea in less than ten minutes. After the pitcher is filled with ice cubes, tea (either loose or bags) is placed in the special paperless filter, and an adjustment for mild, medium, or strong brewing is selected. The lid snaps on. A receptacle slides out from underneath the heating unit which then holds the pitcher snugly in place. Water is added to the heating unit, the power button pushed, and the hot water drips through the tea filter into the pitcher of ice. When brewing is complete, the power automatically shuts off for safety. Complete directions for use are embossed on the slide-out receptacle, which eliminates worries about losing a user guide. Although the iced tea maker looks bulky when assembled, the pitcher inverts snugly over the heating unit for compact storage. Able to fit in most refrigerator doors, the 2-quart pitcher features a hollow, comfortable handle and a thumb release for the lid, but is not dishwasher-safe. Assembled, the machine measures 17-1/2 by 11-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches. --Ann Bieri

Factor Benefits

  • Measures 17-1/2 by 11-1/2 by 4-1/2-inch; wash only by hand.
  • Slim, 2-quart pitcher fits in refrigerator door
  • Indicator light and automatic shutoff
  • Adjustable brew-strength selector
  • Fresh-brewed iced tea from leaves or bags in under 10-minutes

Perfect tea for this Georgia boy
Ellis Godard

I drink tea like you breath air, but I'll bet my air against your tea that this is the maker you'll want.We had a Mr Coffee tea maker for years. It was fine at first, but increasingly problematic.First, physical weaknesses: The pitchers crack and warp slowly but steadily, so won't last forever. You can replace them for about ten bucks, but with shipping that's half the cost of an entirely new unit. And you can't put them in the dishwasher, so you'll probably want at least several up front anyway, so that you can clean them.Second, cleaning problems. Unlke the Hamilton Beach tea makers, the Mr Coffee bags go in the brewing housing, which has to be removed and cleaned separately from the pitcher. And if you forget to do that, you'll have yucky (even moldy) tea bags the next time you go to make tea, even if that's within two days.Hamilton Beach instead keeps the bags' brewing area inside the pitcher itself, which you can refridgerate and prevent yuck and mold from occuring. Plus, the Mr Coffee station drips TEA on the counter as soon as you remove the pitcher, whereas the Hamilton Beach only drips WATER since the tea process is all contained in the pitcher itself.Further, the Mr Coffee series requires that the pitcher get very close to the brew housing station, with the tea just BARELY getting into the spout, or else you'll get tea dripped on the counter WHILE brewing. That messiness increases as the pitcher begins to warp and crack. Hamilton Beach bests that both by including a pull-out tray that HOLDS the pitcher in the correct position, and by having the tea drip directly to the center of the pitcher rather than milimeters from the edge of the spout.Above all, the Hamilton Beach series simply makes better tea. It includes a dial that allows you to make weak, medium, or strong tea, and that's all automated. The Mr Coffee series has no such setting, but requires you to "close" the brewing area for a period and then turn a dial to "open" before it starts putting tea in the pitcher. That manual step both slows down the tea production, and risks making quite the mess if you forget to go back and open the dial.(The reviewer who used 14 bags for 2 quarts is doing something insanely wrong. Above all, they're probably using individual bags. You'll definitely want to get a few boxes of "family size" bags. I use 3 bags for 2 quarts, and it makes as fine a tea as I ever had growin' up in Georgia.)Finally, the Mr Coffee pitcher is a large and obtrusive ROUND cylinder that takes up lots of space in the fridge, even when there's only a glass or so left in the pitcher, plus a handle that takes up excessively additional space. The Hamilton Beach pitchers are instead elongated OVAL shapes, that fit in more places in the fridge, even in the fridge door, and are *shorter* so that you can put them on a shelf with a lower overhead.Mr. Coffee: bigger mess, more manual, more cleaning, more risk, lower longevity, and lamer tea.Hamilton Beach: no mess, no manual revisit, easy to clean, no risk, lasts longer, better tea, and more options when you make it.No contest!

We made not only the right choice but the Best Choice!
Gary B. Kendrick

For years we have used the Mr. Coffee Iced Tea makers and have purchased two of them. This time around we chose to get the Hamilton Beach 40911 2-qt Iced Tea Maker. Even though I/we haven't used the feature that allows you to place loose tea in the basket for brewing we totally like the Hamilton Beach method of brewing tea over the Mr. Coffee. First of all the taste (using Luzianne Family Tea bags was superior to any tea we ever brewed using the Mr. Coffee makers. Also one very large drawback with the Mr. Coffee maker is that the basket, for the bags, sets inside the reservoir and maker and most every time you brew a pitcher and remove the basket you have leakage of tea down in the makers bottom which over time makes for a very ugly looking reservoir, where you put your clean water to brew your next pitcher. Because Hamilton Beach placed the basket directly inside the Pitcher itself there is never any tea that finds its way into the bottom of the tea maker. Also due to ridges in the bottom of the Mr. Coffee maker it's usually almost impossible to totally clean the pitcher and restore it back to the clean condition at the time you first used it. This feature alone makes the Hamilton Beach a better buy over the Mr. Coffee but I thought, before my purchase, that surely the two would make equivalent tasting tea but using both Lipton and Luzianne Family Tea bags the Hamilton Beach not only brews the tea faster but the taste IS Better. On the Mr. Coffee the strength of the tea is controlled by a sliding knob on the front of the maker whereas with the Hamilton Beach it is three rigid clicks of control on the bottom of the basket (mild, medium, strong), we usually use Medium. We enjoy "Sweet-Tea" being from the South and anyone that makes good sweet tea knows you sweeten it while it's hot at the time of brewing. Our method is to first fill the pitcher to the line and fill the reservoir and refill the pitcher to the same water level and then add 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups of sugar and stir with a whisk until very well mixed. Once the tea is brewed you have to stir the tea again but you get perfect sweet tea every-time. If you enjoy tea, even if you never considered an electric tea maker, the Hamilton Beach will be one purchase decision you will not regret. Having two Mr. Coffee makers before this Hamilton Beach I don't see myself ever purchasing another Mr. Coffee unless they make many changes to their product and even then taste is the final decision maker. I HIGHLY recommend the Hamilton Beach model and would gladly buy it again even if it was higher priced than the Mr. Coffee, it's totally worth it.

YAY!
Luna Zee

Like many other reviewers, I was moving on from a Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker. There were many reasons for my retiring the Mr. Coffee, most of which are mentioned in other reviews, but primarily because the little spout that dispenses tea from the brew basket on my Mr. Coffee stopped dispensing. It was about 4 years old. RIP, Mr. Coffee. Thanks to this new iced tea maker, I did not grieve long! Based on the sensational reviews that I read here, and the fact that the reviewers noted the same problems with their Mr. Coffee's as I did, I purchased this one and received it last week. I've spent the last week perfecting the process and am totally satisfied with the product and with the tea.Good points:It is very easy to keep clean. Because only water goes in the tower, there's no need to worry about cleaning it with soap and water. I often felt the need to clean out the tower of the Mr. Coffee because the brew basket leaked into it, and was always careful with the cord. No such problem with this one.Having the brew basket inside the carafe has completely eliminated the leaking I noted with the Mr. Coffee. I have Corian counters and often found the need to scrub them after brewing with the Mr. Coffee due to leaking. As another reviewer noted, the tea is dark and vibrant as soon as dispensing starts. With the Mr. Coffee, it did not retain the water and tea long enough for brewing to truly to get underway. I always used the Mr. Coffee on the strongest brew setting just to get medium-bodied tea. Not so with this Hamilton-Beach. I use the medium and get medium tea.The size is a plus. The water heating tower is small enough to fit in a cabinet, and the carafe is small enough to fit easily in the fridge with all the other beverages. The Mr. Coffee carafe was large and unwieldy. My favorite feature so far with this model is that I can use loose tea in the brew basket without using a coffee filter. There is a built-in mesh filter in the brew basket. I prefer loose tea (the quality tends to be better than the tea you find in bags) and this just simplifies the brewing process for me.All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend the Hamilton Beach Electric Iced Tea Maker to any tea lover.

GREAT TEA MAKER!!!
Rita Edwards

This is the best. It makes a smaller amount than ones you see in the stores and for me that was a selling point, but the best feature is being able to add the sugar! When it is brewed, I simply stir and put in the refrigerator and I have sweet tea all the time.

Great product!!
Robert Jennings

Love the pitcher, does not stain from the tea. Clear Like Glass. Also the adjustment for the strength of the tea.

Great product! Worked perfectly for me every time!
J. Hoff

I've read the other reviews and I had to write my own since I have had nothing but a positive experience with this tea maker. First of all, I don't know why some others have experienced leaking from the front since it hasn't leaked a drip for me. All you have to do is push the pitcher in all the way and it's a perfect fit. Also, all of my water is being emptied from the reservoir and I've never had a problem with it. I actually own both, the TM3-2 and this TM70. I bought the TM3-2 first for one location and I later bought this one conveniently at Wal-Mart for $18 for home. I like the plastic used for the TM70 better since it doesn't seem as cheap, it doesn't stain as much and it's dishwasher safe. I also like how the TM70 only has one opening for the tea to leave and go into the pot. There's a possibility that one of the other reviewers had the opening plugged up to cause an overflow, a finely ground tea might cause that. That may also cause the brewer to automatically stop and not brew all of the water from the reservoir, but I don't know. The TM3-2 has an opening at the top just in case water is overflowing, but this causes the water to go straight into the pitcher without brewing the tea. There are other points I like better about the TM70 design, but I can go on about why I like the TM70 better. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. Maybe I just got lucky to buy one without any flows or it's user error.

This model is horrible. Leaks really badly.
Jason E. Kasper

I had an earlier Mr. Coffee Ice Tea Maker before this one and it was awesome. I loved it. The only problem was that it just got old from lots of use and the pitcher and tea bag holder started breaking. So I bought a new one for Christmas this year. This model. And it is absolutely horrible. The problem appears to be that as the tea is coming down out of the top of the unit and trying to drop into the pitcher, the unit starts acting up and the hot tea starts getting distributed onto the sides of the unit around the end of the pitcher, instead of falling directly into the end of the pitcher, and it leaks all over the counter. Horrible, horrible design. I do not understand how Mr. Coffee hasn't been sued over this piece of crap model yet from having it burn someone. I'm returning mine and I'll think twice about buying another Mr. Coffee model again.

Jennifer

I love sweet tea and was really excited to get this. I was pretty disappointed. I could have put up with the fact that it was leaky and spilled easily and was pretty hard to clean, if only it made good tea. The tea didn't taste good was way too bitter and when I followed the instructions for making sweet tea that came with it I only ended up with mildly sweet very bitter tea with a mess of undissolved sugar inside. I'd rather boil a pot of water on the stove than mess with this tea maker.

Love It
Kevin H. Unverzagt

Well I was skeptical after reading the other reviews but decided to try it. I like how you can use any pitcher you want. But I love that if you set it to strong it actually brews strong (too strong for me). The sugar chamber was ok, but I use sweet n low, so I use far less then a cup, but I can assume it would be ok with a cup. Other reviewers said it got on their countertop, I do not see how this could possibably happen. It does also have a double shower head system which helps make the tea stronger. It took about 5-10 minutes to brew a pitcher. The only thing I dont like is to not use the drip tray you have to remove all the baskets before you remove the pitcher, but that is what the drip tray is for. And with the Mr coffee and such my counters were always a mess. Out of the 7-8 tea makers Iv tried this is my favorite.

Perfect Iced Tea
Super S

This replaced an earlier West Bend model that we had used for years. This one is just as good or better. Really like the style and ease of use. Four tea bags is enough although the directions call for up to seven. Makes perfect iced tea quickly. We do not use the sugar compartment that has been the subject of other complaints.

Smooth iced tea!
M. Murphy

Great iced tea maker. Quick set up right out of the box. Add water, ice, sugar, tea bags/or leaves. 7 minutes later you get smooth delicious tasting iced tea. I don't use sugar in my tea, so did not use the sweetener tray. I like my tea strong, so I used 9 bags of mango peach tea, then brewed at the strongest level. There was no dripping while I put water in the machine, nor was there any water dripping during the brewing process. There is a lot of steam that comes out from the top of the machine, and that may be what some people are confusing with dripping water. I also had absolutely no dripping when pouring tea from the carafe with the lid on, into my glass. Yes, the carafe is plastic, but it is very sturdy and attractive looking, and fits neatly and nicely on the top shelf of the refrigerator. The tea is iced cold straight out of the carafe and tastes smooth, delicious and refreshing. This beats making tea in a pyrex measuring cup in the microwave. I don't have to worry that I left the tea bags in too long or too short of a time. Takes the guess work out of making great tea AND there's no mess. I'm very happy with my choice of iced tea makers.** Update ** Made an Arnold Palmer (half lemonade and half iced tea) with my iced tea maker. Add a can of frozen lemonade into the bottom of the carafe with the ice and brew like usual. Really good!**one more update** Have done a lot of experimenting with the machine and found a great way to save a bit of money. I love mango tea, but find the specialty tea's to be pricey, so i brew 5 bags of Lipton black tea bags and 4 flavored tea bags. It still tastes strong and refreshing. If I want to sweeten it up a bit with out sugar, I pour in about 1/2 a cup of diet cranberry juice with the ice into the carafe. Just make sure you leave out some ice so it doesn't overflow while brewing.

Customer Opinions

I love this iced tea maker!
Alan

I'm a big drinker -- and my primary beverage is iced tea. I brew about 1 batch of iced tea per day. I've had a couple of inexpensive iced tea makers (Mr. Coffee, Hamilton Beach) that worked pretty well for me, but the plastic eventually got so stained that it was a little disgusting to look at. I've been looking for something that would hold up better -- and I saw this baby on Amazon. Although I read mixed reviews of the Oster Iced Tea Makers, the glass pitcher really gave me happy vibes so I went ahead and ordered it.I don't know what those other people were complaining about, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made. The glass is wonderful, it cleans up really nicely. As an added plus, I can use my own pitchers and brew right into them, it will take any pitcher (except my really tall one). I also like the more upscale look with stainless steel and, cleverly, the plastic is black so it won't show tea stains.Another problem I've had is water leakage, sometimes my other brewer would leave a puddle of water on the counter after an vigorous brewing session. That has never happened with the TM25, even after about 50 brewings.I'm also very fond of the lighted water reservoir which is both fun-ctionally helpful and kind of cool.Overall, I am happy to give the TM25 a 5 star rating.

No problems, easy to us, great iced tea
James W. Durney

We have no problems with this product. It is easy to use, sturdy and makes excellent iced tea. Clean up is no problem either. We were buying Snapple Iced Tea by the case, this replaces that purchase. We use a combination of Lipton & Biglow tea bags to make diet peach tea and we are very happy with it. The water is VERY HOT when making tea. You cannot just pop this open and clean up. I have had some drips but nothing that is a real problem.Oster seems to have improved this item which is how I expalne the problems others had.

Makes great tea quick and easy
Bradley Davis

I found this item at my local Sam's Club by accident, after I had failed to find it at a different store that was supposed to carry it. This model, with the stainless steel top, seems to be a bit less problematic than the cheaper version I've seen at Walmart with the plain black plastic top (there are also white versions of each). I've used this tea maker for 4 months without issues.I tried the manufacturer's instructions the first time, but the results seemed strange to me. Trying to add sugar or lemon to the tiny brew basket mostly results in a mess with very little escaping into the pitcher. And I never knew I was odd, but to me "iced tea" means ice in my glass and not sitting there melting in the pitcher (yuck). I made up my own method for using this device and it works great:1. Fill reservoir to the line with water.2. Fill pitcher about halfway with cold water. Add up to 1 cup of sugar to pitcher.3. Place pitcher under brew basket, place 2 family size tea bags into brew basket (perfect fit).4. Press the button and brew your tea.5. When done, remove lid and stir with a long plastic or wooden spoon, so that hot brewed tea on top is diluted and cooled with cold water on bottom and all sugar is dissolved as the entire mixture becomes warm. Top off with cold water if necessary before stirring.6. Replace lid. Serve and enjoy. The unit is very attractive. I mostly only have to clean the brew basket. A little water does condense in the bottom that will dribble all over your counter, so best to wipe it out once the unit has cooled. The pitcher glass does seem thin but has held up well so far. The pitcher is very quick and easy to clean. The tea remains fresh for hours (all day really) and keeps well overnight in the fridge.I think this is the best tea maker on the market, which may not be saying much, but I hope Oster keeps developing and improving it.

Compare newer models carefully!
W. G. Blodgett

I had the old one with the orange top. That one has a top basket to hold the tea bags which incorporates a side lever to plug the bottom drain hole, and an overflow channel so just the last couple of cups steep the tea until you pull the lever to release them. The new one with the blue basket has done away with that lever (I'm guessing to cut costs) and just put a little bit smaller hole at the bottom. They also tell you to use a coffee filter in the basket in addition to the teabags themselves, which after all are little paper filters. This is probably to slow down the run-out of the tea to help it steep it a little bit longer. My favorite combination of bags is one bag or Celestial Seasons Red Zinger, one Lipton Mango, and two Red Rose decaf's. In the old one I would let this combination of tea steep for maybe 10 minutes, and it came out perfectly. Using the same bags with the new one makes *really* tasteless, watery tea.I just found a new model that makes 3 quarts and has a dial on the front for what they call "brew strength". This is a decided advantage over the other revised model. Also, you get a quart more of tea per cycle. You pour the water directly into the unit, where there is a window on the front with markings for 1, 2 and 3 quarts. The container has markings for how much ice to use for 1, 2 and 3 quarts. This is a better design, IMHO. Also, the pitchers are shorter, so fit in more places in your fridge, and the handles don't attach at the pitcher bottom, so you can nest them for storage. This is a big advantage over the old style. The new one comes with 2 pitchers. You can turn them both upside-down over the base unit to save even more storage space. My recomendation: don't buy the newer 2 quart blue basket model. Hold out for the 3 quart model. And here's the kicker- I found mine at Wal-Mart for $2.00 less than Target was selling the 2 quart model!Once you get into the habit of drinking iced tea instead of soda, you'll never go back. The savings in calories, money and hassle of returnable bottles and cans will have you hooked.

Worst Mr coffee Ice tea pot ever!
wrench_turner

I was born and Raised in North Carolina so i know Ice tea especially sweet Ice Tea! I do not drink coffee but I drink 4 gallons of sweet tea on a slow week, and I make it all in one day on the weekend so I have to do it as efficiently as possible! This pot works great to brew the tea easily but god help you if you try to pour it into a glass from the included pitcher! It runs all down the front of pitcher onto the floor, your dog, your feet, etc! Personally I have the older 3qt model with the round pitcher and it works great, but at my urging that newer must be better my mom and dad bought this newly designed model (They were making tea in a pot like grandma did it) Well between my mom, my dad, myself and my wife none of us can pour tea out of this thing without having to wipe down the pot, the counter and even the floor and your feet on occasion! Do not buy this triangular shaped 3qt Ice tea pot, instead buy the one with the round pot. It is also made by MR coffee, and it works quite well both brewing and pouring, no wet feet, no sticky counter and floor. I am willing to bet the engineer that designed this thing never even tried to pour a glass of tea out of it! It looks good, but lacks function. Like I said if you want fast easy ice tea get the Mr coffee 3qt model with the round pitcher and save a lot of hassle and mess! If you have to mop up the counter and floor it defeats the purpose of using a time-saving appliance!

Get used to cleaning up tea
Michael D. Greenwood

Just wanted to add mine to the list of voices pointing out the the design flaw in this product... which is that the included pitcher is useless for pouring without spilling tea everywhere. I don't even try anymore unless it's over the sink... Expect to get rougly 2.5 of the three quarts in your glass.. the rest? floor, counter, pretty much whatever surface was near the glass you were pouring into.

Great Iced Tea Maker
Nelsons

Great iced tea maker - can add sugar in with tea bags to make perfect sweet tea. It is a tight fit for 10 tea bags and 1/2 cup of sugar.

Great working machine, easy to use, was shipped different color than expected!
Joshua

I was impressed with the way the product works, works quickly and efficiently. However, I received the wrong product color. I thought I would be receiving black/stainless steel, and I got white/stainless steel, so doesn't match any of my appliances. But overall, am happy with the product.

Great for iced tea, hot tea, or tea concentrate
K. Reznek

I got this mainly for the sleeve, which I use to retain heat rather than the advertise cold retention. I have an herbal tea that is supposed to be boiled for ten minutes. Much easier to pour the boiling water into here, and let the cover retain the heat.

So-so Iced Tea Maker
Edward Heusinger

This Iced Tea Maker does not match the hype presented in the ad. The pitcher is not a very high quality. The zippered insulating sleeve has less than good construction and material. It has been used only twice since it arrived. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Forget what (the) reviewer says - don't buy this!

When I used this for the 1st (and only) time, I found it noisyand slow. The pitcher doesn't fit snugly into the well, and when youremove it, instead of turning off the flow of tea (as advertised), it makes it flow heavier (which ends up in a mess). When I tried to clean it I found that a difficult task because the filter cup has ridges from edge to center, every inch all the way around. The reservoir got tea in it, and it's so narrow, you can't get in there with a sponge to clean it. When I tried to rise it out, tea flowed out from somewhere, and went all over the place (if I hadn't tipped it, the tea would have dried inside and ended up moldy). Don't waste your money like I did. Boil water, that's all this does. END

Don't waste your money or your time
C. Engellenner

I bought this iced tea maker because a friend had a similar model from a different manufacturer. Thinking they were all similar I bought this one. I was wrong. This machine uses a spring-mounted lever that activates the flow of brewed tea into the pitcher, once the pitcher is placed in it's proper place. No matter how I placed the pitcher (even exactly as the manual instructs), the spring-mounted lever would open the valve only halfway (or not at all), leading the pot to fill with hot tea that spilled out of the top and flooded my kitchen. After two months of this, I threw it out. This product's design is simply flawed. I think the idea of iced tea makers is great, but this execution of it, with the spring-mounted lever valve, simply does not work. Look into another brand if you are thinking of purchasing an iced tea maker.

forget the naysayers-- this thing is GREAT!
Mig P.

If you are an iced tea addict too, then look no further. It does indeed require a fair amount of ice-- but let's think about why. TEA requires HOT WATER to brew. You want your tea to be iced. So you have two choices: you can brew it hot, stick it in the fridge, and wait about five days until it reaches the right temperature. OR, you can use ice. This machine proportions it all PERFECTLY. ''Weak tea'' only happens when you don't use enough teabags. I get the best results with 5 or 6 regular teabags. It takes 5-10 minutes to brew a full pitcher, which is then ready to drink right away, nice and chilled. The reason this only gets 4 stars out of 5 is because cleaning it takes a little effort. (Ridges in basked, as mentioned before.) But you don't have to do that too often. BTW, a surprisingly great tea is the decaf "Ambience" blend from... of all places... Smart & Final! This makes a PERFECT iced tea. We go through a pitcher or two a day in the summer. And for the price, it can't be beat! What else are you going to do-- use a coffeemaker? The stove? Forget it! Load up the Salton, push a button, and you're on your way.
